Development and application of computation model and regulation planning rules for hyperconcentrated flow(2/3)

The purpose of this study is to examine the regulation planning rules for hyper-concentrated flow, through the understanding on the transport behavior by means of characteristics analysis, numerical simulation, and physical model experiment. This study will be accomplished in three years. The outcome from the theoretical analysis and scenarios application is expected to provide the engineers as a guideline for their design and planning needs.

The objectives in this year include finding the rheological relation through the physical experiments based on the sediment samples from Tung-Pu-Ray Creek. The experimental results showed that Bingham viscosity and yield stress are functions of the sediment concentration (by volume). This rehological relation was also embedded into the hyper-concentrated numerical model developed in this study. The regulation planning rules are tentatively applied to Tung-Pu-Ray Creek. The planning contents include the availability of the numerical model, analyses of arrival time, depth increment, bed shear stress, transport stability of the hyper-concentrated flow, and impact force of stone, etc. The tributaries with debris flow potential located at the authority zone of Water Resources Agency were also investigated and summarized. The framework of regulation planning auxiliary information system and its user’s interface were also developed. Finally, two round-table meetings were held in this year. The recent research progress on the hyper-concentrated flow, and model development and study direction proposed in this project were extensively discussed with the international well-known scholars.
