To prevent the sedimentation damages resulted from the outflow of the sediment from the drainage basin, one of the countermeasures is to construct silting basin. At present, however, most of the existing silting basin designs do not consider the silting efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a horizontal 2-D sedimentation model, to simulate the sedimentation mechanism in the basin, and then to recommend a more economic design of the silting basin. The work scope on the first year is to develop and verify the proposed 2-D model and to evaluate the merit and shortage of existing design of the silting basin.
