This report conducted the component test of the USD energy dissipation device and the seismic performance test of a scaled-down steel building structure installed with USDs. The objective of the component test is to verify the mechanical behavior and the stability of the full-scale USD device. Test results show that the initial stiffness of USD is 12.23 t/mm which is consistent with the design value (2% error only). Moreover, the hysteresis loop of USD is stable and its energy dissipation area is remarkable. Good energy dissipation capacity has been confirmed from the component test. Furthermore, the results of the seismic performance test show that both displacement and acceleration responses of the steel building structure under the strong earthquake excitations (PGA≧250gal) can be simultaneously suppressed to a large extent by installing the USDs
